There are probably lots more, but these three are arguably top of the list:
- Procrastination, the thief of time
- Comparison, the thief of joy and
- Regret, the thief of vision
There are so many things we’ve wanted to do for so long but have never gotten round to, just because we keep pushing it off until later. And it’s not because there isn’t enough time. Everyone has the same number of minutes in a day, but some never achieve anything while others do.
Sometimes, it’s because we’re checking out the other person, and since we haven’t yet arrived at the same “level” as them, we’ll just take a little bit more time and fix things up until…
What does that even mean? The same level? We’re too busy doing the “comparing themselves among themselves” thing and, in the process, showing off mega foolishness. Never really enjoying “the now” because there’s just a bit more we need to set right first.
And then, when we realise how much time and joy we’ve lost, regret steps in. When we keep looking backward, we’re unable to plan properly for what’s ahead. So our time, our joy, and our vision…all stolen.
I know there are other thieves out there but imagine if we kill these three. Just imagine…
p.s. I guess I’m speaking more to myself than to anyone else.
